Nice Jazz Festival
Nice is an amazing city on the French Riviera with many beautiful places, natural and historical sights, museums and churches. This city with a rich historical past can entertain travelers not only with beautiful views and historically and culturally significant sites, but also with wonderful events, among which the Jazz Festival takes a special place.
Since 1948, Nice Jazz Festival is one of the oldest jazz festivals in Europe. The festival takes place in beautiful gardens between Place Massena and the coast. It takes place on two outdoor stages, each with 3 concerts per day, and the ticket gives you access to a variety of services, so you can switch between musical performances while traveling to numerous places with food and drink arrangements.
The 6-day festival has a bi-directional approach: a more private stage at the Théâtre Verduer, which is dedicated almost exclusively to jazz, and the Masséna stage (seating about 6,000 spectators!), offering slightly wider coverage, including music rock, pop, hip-hop and funk styles, capable of attracting a much larger audience.
And in the port of Nice, as in other large ports on the French Riviera, luxury yachts are moored - here you can easily meet a billionaire at the pier. If you are interested in a sea voyage, which is better to organize when using the service yacht charter in Nice, take advantage of the offers a trusted company to discover the beauty of the city's views from the water. With a yacht charter, you can head east to Monaco (6 miles away) or west to Antibes (13.7 miles), Saint-Laurent du Var (6.2 miles), the port of Saint-Raphael ( 28 miles), Saint Tropez (38 miles), the Lerins Islands (15 miles), Corsica by sea (80 miles) or the Golden Isles (55 miles).
Event history
Jazz was brought to Nice with military personnel from the Second World War, in 1948 it was headlined by Django Reinhardt and Louis Armstrong. The first jazz festival in the world was held in Nice, and not in America, oddly enough. For the first time this landmark event took place in February 1948. In addition to Louis Armstrong, other stars also participated in it: Claude Lutter, Stéphane Grappelli, Django Reinhardt. This festival was a historic moment after which jazz could count on the general public in France. With his immense talent and magnetism of his presence, Louis Amstrong revealed the beauty of this music to many indeed. In 1971 - 1972, a performance took place at the Théâtre des Verdure on the coast of the French Riviera, which included: Ella Fitzgerald, Faroa Sanders, T-Bone Walker, Stephen Grappelli, the Herbie Hancock trio, Oscar Peterson, Roy Elridge, John Lewis, Al Gray, Percy Heath, Connie Key, Dizzy Gillespie, Daniel Humair, Sonny Stitt, Canonball Adderly, Charlie Mingus, etc.
In 1994 - 2010 the Grand Parade grows into the Nice Jazz Festival - the event gets its modern name.
In 2011 - 2012, the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, decides to manage the festival directly and return the flow of the event to the city center. 40 years later, the festival returns to its roots at the Théâtre de Verdure, while the Jazz Off takes place throughout the city.
